Which seems like a very useful catch-all, untill you find out that some controllers have resting positions that aren't neutral. So the default option is set to 'Get motion from all joysticks'. Since the order that Windows enumerates devices cannot be relied upon by the game developer, setting it to 'joystick1' may result in a players preferred controller not working. 'joystick1' will map to whatever Windows has enumerated as controller 0, joystick2 will map to controller 1 and so on. There's a setting for which controller to use (by number). When you setup inputs for your game you can specify what axes typically go to which input. I actually installed Unity to get a better idea of why this keeps happening, My instincts were correct. The yoke requires a reboot, though, but I can at least set the throttle levers to neutral.

I can at least disable the pedals in Device Manager (after closing the Saitek software in the System Tray). I'm guessing you are using a front usb port and it's shorting out on the case itself when you are removing the cable, but that's just a guess.
